Wezesha Binti

The Wezesha Binti project is a collaborative initiative between Enabel and the Tanzanian Government that aims to empower girls and young women (aged 14–29) in the Kigoma region. The project is guided by three main goals:

  1. Enhanced secondary education: Addressing barriers to education and creating a supportive and safe environment for girls.
  2.  Skills development and entrepreneurship: Equipping young women with tools for economic independence through green growth initiatives.
  3. Fostering a gender-equal environment: Challenging discriminatory norms and addressing violence against women and girls (VAWG).

The project is based on the belief that involving communities and various stakeholders will lead to sustainable results and make a significant contribution to the five districts (Kigoma MC, Kigoma DC, Kasulu TC, Kasulu DC, and Kibondo DC) of Kigoma and the entire region. To achieve this goal, the Wezesha Binti focuses on community-driven solutions through community dialogues and video screenings to stimulate discussion. The videos align with the main project intervention areas mentioned earlier. Therefore, this phase of the initiative concentrates on engaging local communities across 25 wards in the five districts mentioned above.

In December 2024, Jamii-Lab, in collaboration with the Tourism Innovation Hub (TIHub), was involved in supporting the Wezesha Binti Program by facilitating community dialogues and educational video screenings across 25 wards in the Kigoma region.
